Low Back Pain

Lower back pain is the number one reason for a visit to a chiropractor. It is no surprise; because this condition affects about 40% of the population at some point in their lives. It is the number one cause for missed work days.

Low back pain can be present for several different reasons such as muscle spasms, misalignment, pinched nerves and or bulging discs. Internal organs such as the kidneys can refer pain to the lower back and more rarely a tumor or lesion can cause back pain.

Chiropractors treat the neuro-musculo-skeletal causes of lower back pain and through history and examination (including x-rays if needed) determine the cause of the pain and best treatment for you.

The most common cause of low back pain is spinal joint dysfunction which results in muscle tension and nerve irritation. This spinal joint dysfunction or “locked up joints” can gradually occur over months or years. You can also have an injury or accident that can cause specific joint dysfunction. If left untreated for many years the problem can and usually develops into spinal joint degeneration also known as arthritis or osteo-arthritis. It is better you get your low back pain checked sooner that later. Covering up low back pain with pain medication and muscle relaxants usually just prolongs the problem and actually makes it harder to treat.

Dr. Krift’s non-surgical approach to low back pain is to restore normal motion and function to the spine using gentle adjustments to the vertebrae in the back. This chiropractic approach is safer and often more effective that surgery. Dr. Douglas Krift has been serving Fort Thomas, Northern KY and Greater Cincinnati for many years.
